Hawkeyes Snap Michigan’s 20 Game Win Streak

Iowa City, IA – The Hawkeyes kicked off a massive series against 7th ranked Michigan with a 4-2 win in game one, with a season high 1,632 fans in attendance. The Hawks never trailed, taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI single from Tanner Wetrich. Iowa followed with a three run fourth inning, scoring with an RBI double from Kyle Crowl, an RBI triple from Matt Hoeg, and an RBI single from Mitch Boe. The Wolverines had single runs in the 5th and 8th.

Iowa had a solid performance hitting the ball, knocking out Michigan’s ace after 4 and 2/3 innings, giving him his shortest start, and first loss of the season. Matt Hoeg went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and one RBI. Tanner Wetrich was 2-4 with an RBI, and Kyle Crowl was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Iowa had a phenomenal pitching performance from Nick Allgeyer. He went 7 innings allowing just one run on five hits and two walks while striking out 8. He earned the win to improve to 5-3 on the season. He also had a quality start for the tenth weekend in a row. Zach Daniels allowed 1 run in 2 innings on two hits and one walk to earn his fourth save of the season.

Iowa improves to 25-13 on the season and 8-6 In the Big Ten, and will look to wrap up the series victory tomorrow, with first pitch between Iowa and 7th ranked Michigan at 2:05
