Story by Ty Travis

IOWA CITY, IA – The 18th ranked (AP) Iowa women’s basketball team (15-2) host the Purdue Boilermakers (10-7) in Carver Hawkeye Arena on Saturday, January 13th, tipoff is set for 3:00PM CST.

The Hawks are looking to get back to back wins after defeating Illinois 84-71 on Sunday.
Hawkeye leaders Megan Gustafson and Alexis Sevillian will be looking to continue their scoring runs as Gustafson shot 12-17 from the field (34 total points) and Sevillian made 5-8 three-pointers (totaling 21 points) against Illinois.

Gustafson is currently ranked 7th in the NCAA in average scoring and rebounds per game; the Junior standout is averaging 22.7 PPG and 12.6 RPG. Gustafson is also ranked 2nd in the NCAA in field-goal percentage, averaging 58.8% per game.

It is also worth noting that sophomore Kathleen Doyle is a top 25 assist leader (NCAA), averaging 6.3 APG. She is also coming off a double-double game.

The Boilermakers have had an inconsistent season thus far. Andreona Keys is their leading scorer with 13 ppg, followed by Ae’Rianna Harris at 12 ppg. Dominque Oden and Karissa McLaughlin are the predominant three-point shooters. Both are averaging 38% from behind the arc. Ae’Rianna Harris has averaged 8.6 rebounds per game this year and may be Iowa’s Gustafson’s toughest rebounding opponent.

This Iowa women’s basketball team has overcome obstacles this season, due to early injuries but they have pressed forward, and players have stepped in to fill those gaps. This is the best start to the women’s season in two years and we look for another win on Saturday in Iowa City.
