Iowa Lands South Dakota LB Seth Benson

Story by Derek Pech

Iowa City, Iowa – Levar Woods and the rest of the Hawkeye coaching staff has been aware of Seth Benson for quite some time. Woods has been recruiting the young man since he was a junior, but hadn’t offered a full scholarship until recently. When that scholarship offer came it put Benson into quite the bind.

The Benson family has a long history of attending South Dakota State and representing the Jackrabbits in different sports. Seth’s father and brother played football for the Jackrabbits. His mother played basketball, and his sister played volleyball for the Jackrabbits as well. It was an easy decision for Seth to commit to play football for South Dakota State… until the offer from a Big Ten school like Iowa came along.

After much consideration, Benson announced last night that he had decided to decommit from South Dakota State and chose to accept Iowa’s scholarship offer.

Benson currently stands at 6’1″ and weighs 210 lbs. He projects as a MLB for the Hawks. He has been a “do-everything” type of player for his high school team playing everything from QB and H-Back on offense to LB on defense.

Although he was a late offer, it is worth mentioning that Iowa has had a tremendous amount of success mining the state of South Dakota for under the radar talent. Riley Reiff and his brother Brady, Matt Vandeberg, and of course Chad Greenway were all from the state of South Dakota.
