Iowa and Ohio State Split Double-Header

Game 1 Recap

The first game was a pitchers duel. Iowa struck first with a third inning RBI single from Tyler Cropley. Then in the fourth the Buckeyes scored 2 to take a 2-1 lead. Iowa had several scoring chances late in the game, but failed to score the tying run.

The offense was led by Chris Whelan (2-4 2 doubles and a run scored), Tyler Cropley (2-4 with an RBI), Justin Jenkins (2-3), and Mitch Boe (2-4).

Nick Allgeyer battled through 6 innings, working out of several jams to allow just 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and 3 walks. He also struck out 8. He fell to 3-3 on the season. Grant Judkins had a strong relied appearance, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits and one walk in 3 innings.

Game 2 Recap

Iowa came out firing in the second game. After falling behind 1-0 Iowa responded with 7 runs in the bottom of the first. Iowa held on for a 9-5 win.

Lorenzo Elion went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 3 RBIs. Robert Neustrom was 2 for 5 with a run scored. Tyler Cropley was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scores.

Brady Schanuel also managed to pitch through 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 7. He earned the win to improve to 5-3 on the season. Nick Nelsen pitched two shutout innings allowing just one hit. Cam Baumann allowed two runs on three hits in the last inning.

Iowa improves 18-10 and 4-3 in the Big Ten. Iowa will go for the series victory today at noon.
