Hawkeye Baseball With Another Winning Weekend

Altoona, IA – A strong performance by Iowa as the Hawkeyes defeat New Orleans 8-2, to secure a winning weekend in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Baseball Classic. The Hawkeyes improve to 5-1 on the season.

The offense was led by Tyler Cropley (2-4 with 3 RBI and 2 walks), Mitch Boe (2-4 with 2 runs scored), Kyle Crowl (1-4 with a two run home run, and 3 runs scored), and Tanner Wetrich (2-2 with a double off the bench).

Cole McDonald rebounded from a rough opening week start with a great performance. He pitched 7 innings, allowing 2 runs, both unearned, 3 hits, 1 walk, while striking out four. Kyle Shimp pitched the last two innings, allowing just 1 walk, while striking out 3.

Iowa has their home opener on Tuesday, hosting Cornell College.
