Altoona, IA – Hawkeye baseball with another strong performance to defeat UAB 4-1. The top of the lineup was strong with leadoff hitter Justin Jenkins going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI and 2 hole hitter Kyle Crowl going 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Robert Neustrom went 1-3 to extend his hitting streak to 8 games, he’s had a hit every game this season.
On the mound Nick Allgeyer earned his first win of the season by pitching 6 and 2/3 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 4. His season ERA is 0.96. The bullpen was again strong with Grant Leonard recording two strikeouts and Zach Daniels pitching 1 and 2/3 innings of shutout ball to earn his second save of the season. Both Daniels and Leonard have not allowed any earned runs this year.
Iowa improves to 7-1 on the season. Iowa is back in action against UAB tomorrow with Brady Schanuel scheduled to start.
