BCDivide’s High School Football Predictions: Week 3 “All In”

Story by Cody Pech

Week 2 featured a couple great games, it also featured one of the BCDivide owners calling the Pella upset while the other deleted it just hours before the game started. What a shame! Regardless, we’re back in action this week and week three will see teams across the state open up their district match-ups. It’s worth noting that nothing in week 1 or 2 truly matter, it’s the top two teams in each district that qualify for the playoffs. We’ve got 6 games below that we think will be great match-ups and worth paying attention to this Friday evening.

#1 Dowling Catholic (2-0) Vs #3 West Des Moines Valley (2-0)
This is the match up of the week. It features two teams ranked in the top three, both undefeated and both notorious for having strong programs. This year is no different for the Maroons and Tigers. Both teams come in having faced some good competition, but nothing like they’ll see tonight. Valley is lead by Jevon Mason at RB, Mason averages 140 yards rushing per game and has zero fear of the endzone. It’s imperative that Dowling shut down Mason. Dowling is lead by Jayson Murray. Through two games, Murray is averaging 240 yards on the ground per game. He has a Division 1 offensive line in front of him and is the go to guy in the red zone with 7 touchdowns already. Going to be a great game this evening as the rivalry before the rivalry kicks off.
BCDivide Prediction: Dowling 27, Valley 21

#2 Iowa City West (2-0) @ #7 Cedar Falls (2-0)
Last week I was looking forward to the match up between Cedar Falls and Ames, That turned out to be no match up whatsoever as Cedar Falls came down and absolutely throttled Ames 65-7. This Cedar Falls team has outscored their first two opponents 120-14 this season and absolutely will be a force to be reckoned with in 4A this year. They are led by Iowa State recruit Jack Campbell and tonight’s match up with Iowa City West will tell us more. Iowa City West comes in ranked #2 in the state with wins over Muscatine and a good SE Polk team. Cedar Falls will have to stop Evan Flitz and the Trojan passing attack. Flitz has tossed for over 700 yards in 2 weeks and will hope to continue with his Madden type numbers again tonight.
BCDivide Prediction: Cedar Falls 44, Iowa City West 28

#6 Benton Community Bobcats (2-0) @ #2 Cedar Rapids Xavier (2-0)
This quite possibly will be the 2nd best game of the week. The Bobcats come in off a grind it out win over a good Marion team. They bring a balanced attack at you and really work to win the game in the trenches. They’re lead by Spencer Touro at QB and running back Matt Davis does it for them on both sides of the field. Xavier comes into tonight’s battle ranked #2 in Class 2a with two great wins on the season. They beat Iowa City Regina week 1 and a tough Linn-Mar team last week. Similar to the Bobcats, Xavier will look to spread the ball out on the ground. This game has the makings for a classic battle in Cedar Rapids tonight.
BCDivide Prediciton: Cedar Rapids Xavier 24, Benton Community 14

With just 6 games left after this evening, it’s time to look in the mirror and be sure you can tell your coaches and teammates that you’re all in!
