4-Star QB Spencer Petras Commits to Iowa

Story by Derek Pech

At this point it is safe to say the Hawkeye football staff is on a roll on the recruiting trail. In the past few weeks they have landed 4 star DE John Waggoner out of Dowling Catholic in Des Moines, 3 star WR Calvin Lockett out of Largo, Florida, and this morning they put some icing on their recruiting cake by adding 4 star QB Spencer Petras from Marin Catholic High School in California. Merry Christmas Hawkeye fans!

Petras had committed to play football for Coach Gary Andersen at Oregon State, but Coach Andersen resigned midseason. Petras announced this morning that he had officially decommitted from Oregon State and will be signing to play at Iowa next Wednesday morning.

Petras is a 6’5 207 lb. pro style QB at tradition-rich Marin Catholic High School. In his senior season, Petras was 199 of 313 for 4157 yards, 50 TDs, and 2 interceptions. Yes, you might want to read that again because those numbers are ridiculous. On top of those gaudy passing numbers, Petras also rushed for 223 yards and 8 TDs.

According to Blair Sanderson at Rivals, Petras plans to enroll at Iowa in January in order to get a head start on his collegiate football career.
